Presby to hold annual Day of Inspiration event on Friday, May 18

This year’s event will feature volunteer activities at various Presby communities across the Philadelphia region.

Mark your calendars because Presby’s Inspired Life’s annual Day of Inspiration is coming soon!

This year’s Day of Inspiration will be held throughout the day on Friday, May 18 at numerous Presby communities across the greater Philadelphia area.

Created by Presby team members to enhance the senior living communities they serve, the Day of Inspiration is an annual Presby’s Inspired Life giving event. The volunteer effort engages team members, residents of Presby’s communities and community neighbors in a day of service to address the critical needs of the community.

This year, events are scheduled to be held at 12 Presby communities and the Community Support Center.

2018 Day of Inspiration events

The 58th Street Campus
Campus beautification and revitalization in partnership with The Common Place. Common Place and Presby volunteers will work together to assist in keeping this safe haven for the youth of Southwest Philadelphia running in tip-top shape.

Philadelphia seniors’ poverty rate is almost double that of Pennsylvania and the nation. More than 120,000 seniors have trouble paying for life’s most basic necessities. Broomall volunteers are partnering with Marple Presbyterian Church to assist in making meals to be delivered to area seniors. They will also sort clothing and food donations and assemble “blessing bags” to be distribute to area shelters. Help Broomall’s efforts by providing donations or volunteering to help cook.

Grace Court
Be Someone’s Hero! Sign up to become a donor in partnership with Blood Bank of Delmarva. Each day, 350 donors are needed in order to serve 18 hospitals in Delmarva and save more than 20,000 patients each year. It’s fast and convenient. Be a Hero!

Grace Court will also be collecting flip flops of all sizes to be donated to the VA Medical Center.

Jackson Place
Join Jackson Place team members and residents for a South Philly neighborhood clean-up project. We will take to Jackson Street, Cantrell Street and Moyamensing Avenue to pick up debris strewn across streets and sidewalks we use every day. Come help keep your community beautiful!

In partnership with Ralston Center, volunteers will prepare and distribute healthy food to older adults in West Philadelphia. This project will address the food insecurity that many older adults face and provide opportunities for social connection through communal cooking.

Reed Street
Residents & volunteers will attend a teaching kitchen demonstration with Flik chef David Stoltzfus and nutritionist Brianna Waldie. Participants will smell and taste the food while learning beneficial nutrition practices.

Join the 9th District of the Philadelphia Police Department as it seeks to keep residents safe. This service opportunity will offer a chance share information and form relationships aimed at building a safer, more compassionate community.

Food donations will be collected by Rosemont and delivered to ElderNet Food Pantry. Donations will be used to provide free assistance to low-income residents in the surrounding area. Volunteers are also needed to staff the food pantry. For a complete list of needed items, please email

Rydal Park
Bring joy and happiness to a child by participating in the Rydal Park Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) toy drive. The toys will be given on holidays and birthdays to the thousands of children who visit CHOP each year.

Spring Mill
Residents and staff will journey to Silver Springs-Martin Luther School for intergenerational work with the children on a creative and expressive activity. All volunteers must attain clearances in order to participate.

Teachers might be superheroes, but it’s tough to save the world alone! Join Tioga staff at Bethune Elementary School as they spruce up the setting where our children learn. Tioga will support this community school by gardening, planting flowers, doing light painting and organizing storage areas. Come out and provide valuable community service for an awesome group of students and teachers.

Wynnefield Place
In order to address the needs of Philadelphia’s homeless population, Wynnefield Place will be assembling breakfast bags filled with non-perishable contents for an individual’s breakfast — small cereal packs, granola bars, peanut butter crackers, teabags or coffee singles, etc. to be donated to HUB of Hope. Located in the concourse of Suburban Station in Center City Philadelphia, HUB of Hope has serves as a walk-in engagement center for homeless individuals.

Community Support Center
Presby’s Community Support Center in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania will be collecting canned fruits and vegetables that will be distributed to residents enrolled in Presby’s Cupboards of Care program, an initiative that provides $100 gift cards on a quarterly basis to enable Presby residents to purchase healthy food. Donations are already being accepted.
